Canyon Cabin
where Mikey made Hutzelbrot and Lothar rolled out spätzle
self-explanatory
chair (rt) where Lohengrins Ankunft broke me into tears
Alcove where I began my Appellate Practice
I had far too much office stuff than would fit into a tiny alcove and far too much kitchen for my own needs. So I built a fake wall that would serve as file cabinet on the one side and kitchen pantry on the other.
A month after these pictures were taken Hope Ewing sent me an eviction notice stating that she wanted the cabin back because her sister was coming out from Minnesota.
There had never been any mention of a sister coming from Minnesota. The clear implication of our agreement was a long term indefinite tenancy.
Like so many in the Bay Area, Hope is kumbaya liberal on the issues but cold and conservative in the flesh. They may emote over wee little mousie with his upturn’ed housie but could give a rat’s ass about upturning a human’s life.
Once again, I was on the block looking for a place.

P.S. Hope kept the security deposit saying that the place needed a new carpet and painting.

Canyon Cabin
My fondest memory is when Mikey came to visit in February or March with his adoptive dog, Bronte (who definitely did not like me). It began to rain at night and the dark, silence of the woods made the clatter of raid drops on the roof seem even louder. For fun, we played vorspiel to the Walküre at full volume.
Later that same evening, Mikey insisted on pushing me past Wagner. I recall sitting in the table-chair next to the lamp on the left as he induced me into Ives, Three Places in New England and Country Band March.
P.S. - I know the picture frame between the two lamps is too high but what with all the other stuff that needed doing i hadn't gotten around to filling and lowering the frame. It annoys me too but gimme a break...
